Swedish Massage Therapy
Swedish Massage Therapy uses five styles of strokes including effleurage (sliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (tapping), friction, and vibration. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. The term “Swedish” massage is actually only used in English and Dutch speaking countries. Elsewhere (including Sweden) the style is referred to as “classic massage”.
